Bait Sites

Bait sites are websites that serve the purpose of increasing your mailing list, creating more links backs to your main site, or creating alternate more generic portals that attract and lead traffic to your main website.

Typically you would find available domain names that were generic keywords or search terms that your clients would be using to find services like yours.

Using these additional domain names in your marketing strategy, you would:
- increase your ability to be found for those generic keywords
- increase the number of backlinks you can make to your site
- be able to present information in a more generic form

Example Bait Site Results

A good example of a retail bait site that we created for one of our retail clients is: www.goldencanopy.com

Golden Canopy is a lighting product that is a popular seller for our client : weputuplights.com

Results that drive traffic

You'll notice that the site ranks first on google when you search for the term / product name : Golden Canopy
On the site, there is some basic info about the product and ordering info, which when you follow the link to purchase, you are brought onto the clients main website, on the products ordering page http://weputuplights.com/products/golden+canopy

This ranks much higher than the clients weputuplights.com website, and yet contributes to it's overall page rank as part of a wider web strategy.

More Examples

Another example of a good bait site is the one we've created for our real estate client, RickStonehouse.com

Rick sells most of his houses in the Strathcona area of Vancouver. So we registered www.liveinstrathcona.com to create an information resource about the area (including any listings that are available, which direct traffic to his site) There is also an area to sign up for a newsletter which drives more readers for his weekly newsletter.)

You can see below that within a few months of working with us, he's on the top page for many different search terms relating to Strathcona. We did this by registering www.LiveInStrathcona.com and creating a community focused website, rather than your traditional realtor site. While it has listings on it, it's also a place where the community can gather, exchanges can happen through forums, feeds from relevant content like pictures, videos and articles are all organized for you and overall it's a true resource for local content, not some link spam site that has no value to the web surfer or the community at large.

Both of these sites are an example of using additional URL's to create your own network of sites which in turn rank you well in google and drive additional traffic to your main website which may not rank as easily for those search terms would as a keyword rich domain.
Bait sites provide a place to generate new interest in your products and services

What are keywords and how do they work?

Some of you already understand the concept of keywords and how that relates to your business growth.

For those of you that haven't got that far in your internet marketing growth, it's important for you to understand how these work, because in the end, it relates to people finding you on the web.

If more people can find you on the web, then you will get more business, it's that simple.

Study this little presentation I made and be sure to ask me if you have any questions.
